Shared common ancestry with the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through Murrah ibn Ka'b, six generations back — lineage joins at the seventh generation
Haleem — the name by which he is known in the heavens, as narrated by Hadrat Jibra'eel (alayhis salam)
Born in Makkah approximately two and a half years after Aam-ul-Feel (the Year of the Elephant, when Abrahah came with his army of elephants to attack the Blessed Ka'bah) (573 CE) — Makkah
complexion: Fair complexion
body: Slender body
face: Cheeks not fleshy — facial veins notably visible
hands: Palm veins notably visible
dress: Habitually tied his lungi tightly at the waist to stop it from dangling
Described by Hadrat Aisha (radi Allahu anha)
Surah Al-Layl, Ayah 17-21 (Part 30)
And very soon he will be kept far away from it (i.e. Hell) — the one who is most pious. Who gives his wealth in order to become pure. And no one has done a (worldly) favour to him, for which recompense may be given in return. He desires only the pleasure of his Lord Who is Most High. And indeed, soon he will be very pleased.
Cause of revelation: Revealed when he purchased Sayyiduna Bilal (radi Allahu anhu) at a very expensive price and freed him. The verse made clear his action was solely to please Allah, not in return for any worldly favour.
Imam Fakhruddin Razi (rahmatullahi alayh) states in Tafseer-e-Kabeer: 'the Quranic commentators are unanimous that this verse was revealed about the leader of the believers, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddeeq.' (Tafseer-e-Kabeer, vol. 11, p. 187)

O satisfied soul. Return towards your Lord, in the state that you are pleased with Him, and He is pleased with you. Then enter (the ranks of) My chosen bondsmen. And enter My Paradise.
When these verses were recited near the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) said: 'How good is this!' The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: 'At the time of your death, the angel will definitely say this to you.' (Tafseer-e-Tabari, vol. 12, p. 581, Hadees 37213)

- ◈Hadrat Jibra'eel (alayhis salam) loves him — he came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and, upon seeing Abu Bakr pass by, asked: 'Is this the son of Abu Quhafah? Do you heavenly residents recognise him?' to which the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) confirmed and Jibra'eel declared his renown in the heavens

- ◈He is a compendium of goodness — all 360 traits of goodness are found within him. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Goodness consists of 360 traits. When Allah Almighty intends good for someone, He grants them one trait from among these, which takes him to Paradise.' When Abu Bakr asked if he possessed any of these traits, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: 'All of these traits are found within you.'

- ◈Similarity in thinking and reasoning with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — Allah Almighty made his thinking similar to that of the Beloved Prophet's. His heart was like a mirror before the heart of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); every thought that entered his noble heart would also enter the heart of Abu Bakr. This excellence was not granted to anyone besides him.

- ◈Never prostrated to an idol even in childhood — when his father took him to a temple and said 'These are your elevated gods, so prostrate to them,' he walked in front of the idol and said: 'I am hungry, so feed me; I am naked, so clothe me; I am going to hit you with a stone, so save yourself if you are God.' The idol gave no reply, and he hit it with a stone and it fell on its face.

- ◈Who is deserving of Jannat-ul-Adn? — Hadrat Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) states: when Abu Bakr Siddeeq was born, Allah Almighty said to Jannat-ul-Adn: 'By My honour and majesty! I will only enter those people in you who will have love for this individual.' (Mukhtasar Tareekh-e-Dimashq, vol. 13, p. 69)

- ◈Knowledge of dream interpretation — acquired this knowledge directly from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'I was commanded to mention the interpretation of dreams and that I teach this knowledge to Abu Bakr.' (Tareekh-e-Ibn-Asakir, Hadees 6325)

- ◈Always favoured with the pleasure of Allah — Imam Abul Hasan Ash'ari (rahmatullahi alayh) states: 'Abu Bakr was always favoured with the pleasure of Allah.' (Irshad-us-Saari, vol. 8, p. 370). Imam Abdul Wahhab Sha'rani (rahmatullahi alayh) narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Bakr: 'Do you remember that day?' — referring to the Day of the Covenant when Allah asked all souls 'Am I not your Lord?' — and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was the first to say 'Bala' (Of course).

- ◈Superior to all after the Prophets — Sayyiduna Abu Darda (radi Allahu anhu) states: the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him walking ahead of Abu Bakr Siddeeq and said: 'Are you walking ahead of him who is superior to you? After the Prophets and Rusul, the sun neither rose nor set on anybody better than Abu Bakr.' (Fazail-ul-Khulafa La-Abi Naeem, pp. 38, Hadees 10)

- ◈Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtada (radi Allahu anhu) testified to his superiority on multiple occasions, stating regarding the caliphate: 'Listen attentively! He also said that one moment from the blessed life of Abu Bakr Siddeeq is better than thousands of moments from the life of the believer from the family of Fir'awn. Before the dawn of Islam, during the era of ignorance, he travelled to Syria for trade and had a dream. He relayed the dream to a monk named Baheera, who said: 'If Allah Almighty actualises your dream, He will send a Prophet to your nation; you will be his vizier during his life and his successor after his passing.' When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced his prophethood, he himself mentioned this dream as proof, whereupon Abu Bakr embraced him and kissed his blessed forehead, declaring the Shahada.

He had a dream that a moon descended in Makkah, split into fragments that entered every house, then reassembled and entered his lap. Its interpretation was: 'You will be the most fortunate one from the followers of the awaited Final Prophet and all people.' The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned the dust from Bilal's face with his own shawl after he fainted upon seeing the Holy Prophet.
Affirmed the Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj) earning the title Al-Siddiq
When Muslims doubted the Holy Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) account, he categorically said the words of the Holy Prophet were true
Accompanied the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on Hijrah to Madinah — bore the entire cost of the journey; served as bodyguard during the journey
During the journey to the Cave of Sawr, he would sometimes walk in front and sometimes behind the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When asked why, he replied: 'When I think about those searching for us, I move behind you; when I think about hidden enemies waiting in ambush, I move in front of you so that no harm can reach you.' (Aashiq-e-Akbar, p. 31)
Divine manifestation during Hijrah — offered the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a she-camel for the journey
When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started heading towards the Cave of Sawr, Abu Bakr offered him a she-camel. After the Holy Prophet rode on it, he turned towards Abu Bakr and said: 'May Allah Almighty grant you Ridwan-e-Akbar.' Abu Bakr asked: 'What is it?' The Holy Prophet replied: 'Allah Almighty will cast a divine manifestation on all bondmen in general and will manifest on you in particular.' (Al-Riaz-ul-Nuzra, vol. 1, pp. 166)
Paid for the land to build Masjid-e-Nabawi in Madinah
Served as bodyguard at Battle of Badr — first to rejoin the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Uhud — remained loyal at Hunain

Through his invitation to Islam, five companions who are included among the ten given glad tidings of Paradise embraced the faith

When asked why, he replied: 'When I think about those searching for us, I move behind you; when I think about hidden enemies waiting in ambush, I move in front of you so that no harm can reach you.' Divine manifestation during Hijrah — offered the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a she-camel for the journey
When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started heading towards the Cave of Sawr, Abu Bakr offered him a she-camel. After the Holy Prophet rode on it, he turned towards Abu Bakr and said: 'May Allah Almighty grant you Ridwan-e-Akbar.' Abu Bakr asked: 'What is it?' The Holy Prophet replied: 'Allah Almighty will cast a divine manifestation on all bondmen in general and will manifest on you in particular.' (Al-Riaz-ul-Nuzra, vol. 1, pp. 166)
