Birth

Born five years before the declaration of Prophethood — Born in the home of Hadrat Khadijah (radi Allahu anha) in Makkah — the birthplace became known as 'mawlid Fatima'

Appearance

A shining reflection of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — her appearance, disposition, and deportment mirrored the Messenger of Allah. Radiance shone among those in the heavens. Remarkable resemblance in personality to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Displayed intelligence, accomplishments, and cheerfulness.

Az-Zahra — The title Zahra refers to the bud of a flower — she herself is like the bud of a heavenly flower, as her sacred body emitted the fragrance of Paradise, which was smelt by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Batool — To be detached — despite living in the world, she remained detached from it and never allowed it into her heart

When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to travel, he would first meet Lady Fatima. Upon his return, he would again first meet with her

Her marriage took place in the 2nd year after hijra, in either the month of Safar, Rajab, or Ramadan. Lady Aisha and Umm Salama (radi Allahu anhuma) requested soil to be brought from the al-Batha valley to coat the floor of the home. They arranged the date tree bark in the ceiling, fashioned two pillows, and placed cold water, dates, raisins. They announced: 'We have not seen a marriage better than Fatima's'

The dowry arranged by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at her marriage consisted of a shawl, a pillow filled with palm bark, a bowl, two water skins, and two flour grinders

She shared a wonderful tie with her mother-in-law, Fatima bt. Asad (radi Allahu anha), the mother of Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu), displaying a practical example of how a daughter-in-law should be with her mother-in-law. Hadrat Ali greatly valued this virtue and once said to his mother: 'Fatima will ensure you never worry of household matters'

Her will to Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu): (1) Marry my niece Umamah after I die. (2) When I die, bury me in the evening, so that the eyes of non-mahram men do not fall upon my funeral. She protected herself from the gaze of non-mahram men during her life and worried about them seeing her after she passed away

Her children: three sons — Hadrat Imam Hasan (radi Allahu anhu), Hadrat Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhu), and Hadrat Muhsin (radi Allahu anhu) who passed away in childhood — and three daughters: Sayyidah Zaynab (radi Allahu anha), Sayyidah Ruqayyah (radi Allahu anha), and Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (radi Allahu anha). The family of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continues through Imam Hasan and Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhuma)
