Biography
Abu Yusuf Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim al-Ansari (113-182 AH / 731-798 CE) was one of the most prominent students of Imam Abu Hanifa and a pioneering jurist who served as the first Qadi al-Qudat (Chief Justice) in Islamic history under the Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid. His major work Kitab al-Kharaj on taxation and public finance is one of the earliest treatises on Islamic economics and governance. He played a crucial role in spreading and codifying the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, making it the official legal school of the Abbasid state.
