Biography
Abu Isa Muhammad ibn Isa al-Tirmidhi (209-279 AH / 824-892 CE) was a Persian Islamic scholar and compiler of one of the six canonical hadith collections, Jami al-Tirmidhi. Born in Tirmidh (present-day Uzbekistan), he travelled extensively to study hadith under scholars including Imam Bukhari. His collection is particularly valued for its grading system of hadith and inclusion of legal opinions from various schools of thought. He also authored Al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah, a beloved compilation describing the noble characteristics and appearance of the Prophet Muhammad.
