Salahuddin Ayyubi

Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub (532-589 AH / 1137-1193 CE), known in the West as Saladin, was the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty and one of the most celebrated Muslim leaders in history. A devout Sunni Muslim of Kurdish origin, he united Egypt and Syria and is best known for his liberation of Jerusalem from the Crusaders in 583 AH / 1187 CE after the decisive Battle of Hattin. He was renowned for his chivalry, justice, and generosity — even his enemies praised his noble character. He established madrasas, hospitals, and endowments across his realm.
