In approximately the 7th to 10th year of Prophethood, all the tribes of Quraysh made an agreement to boycott Banu Hashim: no marriage, no trade, no socialising, no food provisions were to reach them until they handed over the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The agreement was signed, and all the people of Banu Hashim remained in the ravine of Shi'b Abi Taalib for three years.
