Shaykh Abd al-Haqq Muhaddith al-Dihlawi (rahimahullah) said regarding the obligation of love: 'A sign of a true believer is he loves and honours the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than anything and anyone. Loving the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than anything requires one to fulfil his rights, accept his religion, adopt his Sunnah, honour him, and to prioritise his pleasure over yourself, your parents, relatives and wealth. This means you would be content with sacrificing everything beloved to you, even your own life, but you cannot bear the suppression of the rights of the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).'
