During the Mi'raj, a mount named Buraq was presented — a white animal larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, whose speed was such that it would place its next step as far as its gaze could reach. When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved closer to mount it, Sayyiduna Jibraeel (peace be upon him) said to it: 'Are you not ashamed? No personality has mounted you in all creation more noble than the chosen one, Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' Hearing this, the Buraq became still with reverence.
