The title Ahmad is attested in the Holy Quran itself, where Sayyiduna 'Isa (peace be upon him) gave glad tidings of the coming of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by name: 'And giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me, whose name is Ahmad.' (Surah Al-Saf, verse 6).
