The passing of Imam Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Darimi, compiler of the Sunan al-Darimi (also known as Musnad al-Darimi). Born in Samarqand, he was a leading hadith scholar and jurist who studied under over a thousand scholars including Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal. His Sunan is sometimes considered among the most important hadith collections alongside the Kutub al-Sittah.

Born in the Dar al-Qutn quarter of Baghdad, he authored the Sunan al-Daraqutni and Al-Ilal, a masterwork identifying subtle defects in hadith chains. His expertise in hadith criticism was unrivalled in his era.
