Abu'l-Hasan, Abu Turab (given by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him))
Born on a Friday when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was 30 years old (30 years after 'Am-ul-Feel, the year the wretched king Abrahah attacked the Holy Ka'bah with elephants). He is a paternal cousin of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — son of Abu Talib (the Holy Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) uncle) — Inside the Holy Ka'bah
height: Medium height — neither tall nor short
eyes: Large eyes
face: Outstandingly handsome — as lustrous as the full moon
shoulders: Broad shoulders — the portion between his two shoulders was wide
hands: Heavy palms, strong hands — his hands and shoulders were hard and immensely strong
neck: Slender neck
hair: Blessed hair from rear of his head, not from forehead
beard: Blessed beard was flowing — each hair was naturally dark
teeth: When he would smile, his blessed teeth would look like a string of white pearls
character: Would respect the pious, love the Masakeen (destitute) and never give hope to the influential or affluent to fulfil invalid desires. No vulnerable person would be disappointed from his blessed court; rather he would have been confident to have justice done

First meal — when Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) was born, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and put his blessed saliva into the newborn's mouth, then placed his blessed tongue — Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) suckled on the blessed tongue and slept, continuing until Allah willed. The next day, the midwife was called but Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) did not take milk. When this news reached the Beloved Rasool (peace and blessings be upon him), he again placed his blessed tongue into the mouth of Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) and he slept suckling the blessed tongue
Unique Glory — Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a series of profound questions. What is loyalty? 'The oneness of Allah and testifying it.' What is turmoil? 'Disbelief and polytheism.' What is truth? 'Islam, the Glorious Quran and sainthood.' What is necessary upon me? 'Obedience to Allah and His Rasool.' What is my salvation? 'Eat Halal and speak the truth.' What is pleasure? 'Jannah.' What is comfort? 'Seeing the blessed sight of Allah.'
Lay in the Holy Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) bed during the night of migration (Hijrah) — risked his life so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) could safely migrate to Madinah
Demonstrated exceptional bravery in battles of Badr, Uhud, and Khandaq — and a great many renowned and brave warriors of the unbelievers were hurled into Hell due to the massive strikes of his unique sword named 'Zulfiqar'
The conqueror of Khaybar — given the flag of Islam by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This was one of his three distinctions testified to by Hadrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also applied his blessed saliva to Sayyiduna Ali's (radi Allahu anhu) sore eyes on this day, curing them instantly
Married Hadrat Fatimah (radi Allahu anha), the beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — this was one of his three distinctions. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married his daughter to him
His house was adjacent to the Masjid of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — whatever was permissible for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inside the Masjid was his exclusivity. This was the third of his three distinctions
After the martyrdom of Hadrat Uthman (radi Allahu anhu), the Ansaar and Muhaajireen pledged Bay'ah to Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) and elected him as Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen — he held the office of Khilaafat for 4 years, 8 months and 9 days
Night of martyrdom — in Ramadan 40 Hijri, he had a routine of breaking his fast one night at the residence of Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (radi Allahu anhu), one night by Sayyiduna Imam Hasan Mujtaba (radi Allahu anhu) and one night by Sayyiduna Abdullah Bin Ja'far (radi Allahu anhu). He would not eat more than three morsels, saying 'It feels good to meet Allah with an empty stomach.' At the night of martyrdom, he came out of his home and said while looking at the sky, 'By Allah, I have never been given false news; this is the very same night I was promised' — he was already aware of his time of martyrdom
Assassination — on the Friday night of 17th (or 19th) Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 40 Hijri, while on his way to the Masjid calling people to Salat-ul-Fajr, Ibn Muljam the notorious and wicked attacked him and a fatal stroke of the sword slashed his forehead till the temple, the sharp edge penetrating into his brain. After two days of this awful tragedy, Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) passed away as a martyr
Prophecy about his martyrdom — the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) at Ghazwah Zil-Ushayrah: 'O Ali! Shall I not inform you about those two persons who are the most unfortunate amongst all? The one from the people of Thamud who chopped the blessed legs of the sacred she-camel of Sayyiduna Salih, and O Ali, second is the one who will strike your head with the sword turning your beard into red with the blood'
Punishment of Ibn Muljam after death — a wanderer in a jungle came across a church and heard from the pastor that a giant white bird resembling an ostrich would come, sit on a stone, vomit human body parts which would assemble into a man and then the bird would devour him again. The man revealed he was 'Abdur Rahman Ibn Muljam, the murderer of Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu). Allah had ordered an angel to torment him continuously till the Day of Judgement

- ♥Deep love for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — when asked how much he loved the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he replied: 'I swear by Allah! The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is dearer to us than our wealth, offspring, parents and even cold water at the time of intense thirst'

- ♥Excellence of Haydar's household — Imam Hasan and Husayn (radi Allahu anhuma) fell ill. Amir-ul-Mu'mineen Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu), Sayyidatuna Fatimah (radi Allahu anha) and their maid Sayyidatuna Fiddah (radi Allahu anha) vowed to observe fasts for three days for the recovery of both princes. One day a Miskin came, second day an orphan and on the third day a prisoner knocked on the door begging for food. All the bread was given to the beggars on all three days. They broke their fast by just drinking water. In the Holy Quran, Allah mentioned this faith-inspiring incident: 'And they feed, for love of Him, the poor, the orphan and the prisoner. They say to them, We feed you solely for the pleasure of Allah. We desire no recompense or thanks from you' (Part 29, Surah Ad-Dahr, Verse 8-9)

- ✦Severed hand was re-attached — an Abyssinian slave who had committed theft had his hand cut off in implementation of Shari'ah. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) placed the severed hand back to the joint of the wrist covering it with a handkerchief, then recited something. A voice from the unseen said 'Remove the cloth.' When the people removed the cloth, the severed hand was found reattached with no scars

- ✦A heavy flood subsided — a heavy flood in the River Euphrates (Al-Furat) inundated all agricultural fields. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) dressed in the Prophet's Blessed Robe (Jubbah), Sacred Turban and Holy Shawl, mounted his horse and rode to the bridge of Al-Furat. He pointed his staff towards the river and the water lowered a yard. He pointed again and it lowered another yard. The third time he pointed and the water lowered more up to three yards and the flood subsided

- ✦A water spring gushed out of rock — on the way to Maqam-e-Siffin, the battalion came across a land where there was no sign of water and the troops were exhausted due to intense thirst. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) dismounted, gripped a crack in a heavy rock with his blessed fingers and all of a sudden pulled the heavy rock out. A pure and crystal-clear stream of water gushed from beneath the rock. The monk of a nearby church who witnessed this miracle embraced Islam

Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) ordered the person brought to him — he had been crawling due to one side of his body being affected by paralysis as a divine punishment for beating his righteous father. Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) offered Rak'at of Salah praying for his healing and then said 'Qum!' i.e. stand up. The person stood up comfortably and began to walk unaided

- 🌟He was the Holy Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) cousin AND son-in-law — he married the Holy Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter Hadrat Fatimah (radi Allahu anha)!
- 🌟The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its door' — he was incredibly wise!

- 🌟When a giant flood threatened to destroy crops near the Euphrates River, Hadrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) pointed his staff at the river three times and the flood went down — just like that!
- 🌟He found water in the middle of the desert by pulling a heavy rock out of the ground with his bare hands — a hidden spring gushed out and quenched the thirst of an entire army!
- 🌟He was never thirsty his entire life — a special blessing given to him by Allah!
