Ameer Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan

Hadrat Ameer Muawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) was a noble Companion of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), entrusted with the honour of recording the words of the Holy Quran as Scribe of Revelation (Katib al-Wahy). His father Hadrat Abu Sufyan (radi Allahu anhu), his mother Hadrat Hind (radi Allahu anha), and his sister Hadrat Umm Habibah (radi Allahu anha) — a blessed wife of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — were all Companions.

He commanded the first naval expedition of the Muslim Ummah under the Caliphate of Hadrat Uthman al-Ghani (radi Allahu anhu), thereby fulfilling the prophecy of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the first sea-faring army of the Ummah would earn Paradise. He served as Governor of Syria (al-Sham) for many years and later became the first Umayyad Caliph, described by Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (rahmatullahi alayh) as the first monarch of Islam. He departed this world on 22 Rajab 60 AH in Damascus, with his final counsel to his family: 'Fear Allah. Whoever fears Him is granted His protection.'
