Sayyiduna Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas was one of the ten Companions promised Paradise (al-Ashara al-Mubashshara) and the maternal uncle of the Prophet Muhammad. He was the commander at the Battle of Qadisiyyah which defeated the Persian Empire, and the founder of the city of Kufa. He was the last of the ten blessed Companions to pass away. The Prophet said: 'Shoot, Sa'd! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!' — a unique honour.
